A song which has inspired me..

Stood there and watched you walk away, From everything we had But I still mean every word I say to you, He will try to take away my pain And he just might make me smile But the whole time I'm wishin he was you instead..♥

Style Icons Back In The Day..

style Icon : Brigitte Bardot

Brigitte Bardot always comes to mind when someone utters the word pinup or sex symbol. Men lusted after her womanly figure while women lusted after and tried to copy her 50's pinup girl style. Her large kohl rimmed eyes and pale pink lips were her fashion trademarks. Bardot was also a rebel who resisted the claustrophobic mores of the 50's with her relaxed way of dressing. "She is every man's idea of the girl he'd like to meet in Paris" said the film-critic Ivon Addams in 1955. She often wore her blonde hair in a wild pony tail or sometimes pigtails in a look that today is thought of as the perfect bedhead look. Her pink gingham wedding dress designed by Jacques Esterel became a sensation in 1956. Also, in 1956 Brigitte starred in the film And God Created Woman which was an international success.

style Icon : Twiggy Lawson
In early 1966, Lesley Hornby found herself propelled to the heights of international fame as the world's first supermodel - Twiggy. With her waif like figure, boyish hair cut and striking eye lashes she created an image that would epitomise an era. Twiggy became the idol for millions of teenage girls of the sixties revolution. By the age of 17, Twiggy was one of the most famous faces on the planet: her photograph was even encased in a time capsule and sent into space. By this time in the sixties, Twiggy had already become a household name across the globe, an icon whose image graced the covers of Vogue, Tatler and even her own American publication Her Mod, Mod Teen World. "The Cockney Kid with a face to launch a thousand shapes... And she's only 16! - The Daily Express, February 23rd 1966 Source : The Official Twiggy Lawson Site

Style Icon : Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn was skinny, with bushy eyebrows and close cropped bangs, yet she changed the definition of style and grace forever. Mary Quant called her the "most stylish woman who ever lived". Audrey's greatest weapon of all, and the reason behind her eternal fashion appeal was Hubert de Givenchy, the couturier with whom she collaborated on the costumes for almost all of her films. Together, Givenchy and Hepburn created a fashion/ film union that has yet to be matched. Breakfast At Tiffany's was the film that sealed her reputation as a fashion goddess. The image of her in Tiffany's with her beehive hairdo, white gloves and little black dress was and is one of the most stylish looks. Her appeal was that her style was universally accessible and even today looks modern. She never made the mistake of following trends, but remained loyal to the clothes that suited her the best. That is why she became bigger than fashion. Source : The Independent - London

Stealing Beauty - 1996

The most beautiful place to be is in love.

So says the tagline for the sun-drenched, achingly romantic chick-flick Stealing Beauty; in which not only Liv Tyler’s grunge inflected mid-90s wardrobe but everything from the soundtrack, to the boho interior design, to the rolling Tuscan countryside itself comes together in 118 minutes of relentlessly overripe sensuality that is this week’s style inspiration.

If you haven’t seen it, I strongly recommend it.  Liv Tyler plays 19-year old American Lucy Harmon, who heads to rural Tuscany following her mother’s suicide ostensibly to get away from it all and have her portrait made by a reclusive Irish artist (Donal McCann).  Lucy also has a deeper agenda.  She’s looking for her biological father, following a trail of clues from her mother’s diaries and, it transpires , she’s also searching for love.

A programme worth putting the marigolds down for..

Halloween..

okay, so i know its a little early to be thinking about Halloween, but I saw this photo and i had to make a piece on it and how vintage can be incorporated in all aspects of living..

Vintage Accessories.

VINTAGE ACCESSORIES
Vintage accessories add style, colour and class to your outfit, and create a certain look, at the same time they may also have practical functions. Some accessories such as muffs or parasols you can find only in vintage shops, they are not often produced not any more.

You can easily find other vintage accessories of a variety prices, styles, materials and age in vintage shops and markets. Moreover, accessories is something you can easily buy online: its safer than buying cloths for example, you don’t necessarily have to try it to make sure that it’s the right size.

Vogue..

letting all you big time shoppers know that its not all about the price..

Fifteen years, Vogue put a humble £21 Marks & Spencer silk shantung shirt on the cover and there were still bona fide supermodels kicking around their editorial spreads.

Taking care of your golden oldies..

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR GOLDEN OLDIES

How to store your fabulous vintage threads
Always store your vintage clothing in a dry, dust and rust free zone.

Never store your vintage threads in direct sunlight. Cool vintage prints and colours will irreversibly fade away in the suns rays.

Ensure your fabulous vintage items can breathe. Stay away from the plastic covers you can buy at the dry cleaners. They suffocate glorious vintage fabrics.

Hang your vintage clothing on fabric padded hangers for the best protection. (Metal hangers rust!)

Washing your vintage clothing
Always hand wash pre 1960s vintage clothing.

Machine wash at 30 instead of 60 degrees. Not only will this prolong the life of your fabulous vintage clothing, but it's eco-friendly too.  Always check the label for washing instructions.

Use a reputable dry cleaners. Always ensure the dry cleaner knows what they are doing and most importantly that the garment is vintage.

If you are unsure about washing your vintage clothing have no fear. You can use "dry clean cloths" for the home. You can pick these up in your local dry cleaners or even the supermarket.

Vintage care secrets passed down...

If your vintage clothing is musty or smells of smoke,  simply hang your vintage item on the washing line. It is a miracle what fresh air can do!

Stubborn zips? Vintage clothing pre 1960s all have metal zips and most of the time they need a little TLC. My secret tip is obvious, but nifty. Use vaseline. Simply run vaseline all the way down the zip for smooth zipping action. No vaseline? Use hand cream or hair conditioner.

Introduction to Vintage Fashion.

When women of the mid-1900's needed something special to wear for an occasion, it wasn't uncommon for them to create something for themselves. Whether they came up with the design or took inspiration from a Mccall's pattern, clothing from this era was often unique and/or one-of-a-kind. Today, many people go to their local shopping malls or shop online for items to fill their wardrobe gaps. Anyone who has shopped at these malls is aware of the frustration that comes from trying to find a fabulous dress that will make you stand out when all you are surrounded by is boring.

Vintage clothing is a world away from the mass produced. It gives you the opportunity to take something from a different time and make it your own. It's also easy to take vintage fashions and mix them in with your current wardrobe.

The fashion revolution of the 1960s brought us clothing and styles that were much more varied. People of the time embraced this by scouting thrift shops and yard sales, and vintage clothing stores began opening in the 1970s.

I think it is undeniable that vintage is here to stay!
<< This is me. so.. a little about myself. As said below, Abbie's the name being a student is my game.
